A Derrick Rose 2008-09 Topps Chrome Non-Graded Refractor Rookie Card Sold For $117

The Derrick Rose 2008-09 Topps Chrome rookie card is heating up again on eBay. With the 2011-12 NBA season FINALLY under way after a long, drawn out lockout, Rose and the Bulls are off and running again.

The Chicago Bulls just got their sixth win in a row tonight as they beat Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic IN Orlando by the score of 97-83. Derrick Rose scored 21 points and dished out 10 assists. He also grabbed 6 rebounds in Chicago’s win.

A 2008-09 Topps Chrome Orange Refractor Derrick Rose Rookie Card Just Sold For $202

The Chicago Bulls are now 7-1 on the young season and are heavily favored to get to the NBA Finals this year. As mentioned above, Basketball card collectors are gobbling up Derrick Rose’s 2008-09 Topps Chrome rookie cards in bunches on eBay. And they are selling for some premium prices.

In fact, all of Derrick Rose’s rookie cards skyrocketed in price last year after the young point guard won the NBA MVP award in 2010-11. But for this article we will just focus in on the 2008-09 Derrick Rose Topps Chrome rookie card.

Earlier today I went over to eBay and clicked on “Completed listings” for Derrick Rose’s Topps Chrome rookie issue. Below is a quick list of what a few of them ended up selling for.

1) 2008-09 Topps Chrome Orange Refractor Derrick Rose sold for $202.50

2) Regular Rose 2008-09 Topps Chrome Refractor graded BGS 9.5 went for $176

3) A regular, non-refractor Derrick Rose 08-09 Topps Chrome #181 sold for $59.99

4) A non-graded Derrick Rose Topps Chrome rookie regular refractor sold for $117.06

Some pretty good prices for rookie cards that aren’t even autographed!! Just goes to show you how
hot Derrick Rose is right now.

I Purchased Six Blaster Boxes Of 2008-09 Topps Chrome Basketball Cards For $20 Each Back In 2009

I recall back in the summer of 2009 I was lucky enough to find 6 blaster boxes of 2008-09 Topps Chrome basketball at Shopko for $20 each. I bought all of them and was lucky enough to get two Derrick Rose rookies. Like a fool, I threw them on eBay and I think they sold for about $10 each. OUCH! Now fast forward to 2012 and the 2008-09 Derrick Rose Topps Chrome issue has almost quadrupled in price. Sure wish I would have hung onto them just a little longer.

I also could have made some good money if I just would have put the blaster boxes away and not opened them at all. Those same 2008-09 Topps Chrome basketball blaster boxes that I got for $20 each are now fetching close to a hundred dollars and more on eBay….IF you can even find them. They seemed to have dried up all together as collectors (like me) have busted them open in hopes of pulling one of D-ROSE’s hottest rookie cards.

At the moment, there is only one 2008-09 Topps Chrome basketball blaster box being offered on eBay. The seller has a “Buy It Now” price of $150. I am still kicking myself for opening all those blasters! But that’s what makes basketball card collecting so interesting. You win some and you lose some! I definitely lost on my 2008-09 Topps Chrome basketball card experience.

Hey fellows sports card collectors! Do you have a similar story to tell? Please leave a comment below on a few of your sports card adventures. Did you score big time on a card or hobby box you purchased??!! Or were you more like me from my story above and you too are kicking yourself for selling too early, etc. Let us know. I always like to hear stories from fellow sports card collectors.
