49ers Finally Get Their First Win Of 2010 Season

Being a Northern California native myself, there is no bigger game than when the Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers go head-to-head.

Yesterday the two Bay Area rivals squared off at Candlestick Park and let’s face facts, both teams STINk in 2010. The 49ers were 0-5 coming into the game and the Raiders were 2-3. The Niners record is the most surprising because they were expected to win the NFC West and go far in the playoffs.

49ers’ quarterback Alex Smith had a decent game yesterday but he has been awful in 2010. The Niners’ fans are simply fed up with Smith because here he is in his sixth NFL season and he still has not played up to a #1 QB. It has come to a head as the fans continuously boo Alex Smith every time he is on the field.

Here are Smith’s numbers from yesterday’s 17-9 49ers win over the Raiders. Smith passed for 196 yards and threw two touchdowns with no interceptions. He hooked up with Niners receiver Michael Crabtree on one of his TD passes. Crabtree made a spectacular catch as he fell into the end zone.

Why Smith has not improved is a mystery because he has a lot of good weapons around him. He has Crabtree, Vernon Davis and Frank Gore. There may be only one answer to why he is not improving. The answer is Alex Smith stinks and is not very good. When you have guys with that kind of talent around you, you should be at least half way decent!! Not Smith! He may be the biggest #1 pick bust in NFL history.

As far as the Raiders, they are having QB problems of their own. With Bruce Gradkowski out with an injury, they have turned to Jason Campbell at QB. I truly thought that the addition of Campbell would help them turn things around. But it just hasn’t happened as Campbell has been awful and he may be injured now. Raiders fans were so happy when Al Davis finally broke down and released another top pick bust in JaMarcus Russell during the off season. But it appears they are back in the same boat at the QB position. In yesterday’s game, Jason Campbell put up some “JaMarcus Russell” type numbers. He passed for a measley 83 yards and threw 2 interceptions. OUCH. The 49ers “improved” to 1-5 and the Raiders dropped to 2-4 after yesterday’s contest.
